VINCENT HARDWARE OLD BOYS NITE LEAGUE

The Old Boys Tennis Club recently held the 2014 VINCENT HARDWARE Old Boys Tennis Nite League. The league followed the US format of World Team Tennis where four team members join up to play shortened versions of Men’s Singles, Ladies Singles, Mixed Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Men’s Doubles. No add-rule and no let rule are also put in place in order to ensure fast and fun tennis with a difference. The team with the most points will win the fixture.

An A and a B Division were set up, with four teams in the A Division and 8 teams in the B Division. A round robin was followed and the final team positions in the divisions were as follows:

A Division:

First Hi-Q Invitation

Second Beacon Bay

Third Old Boys

Fourth Gonubie

B Division:

First Destiny

Second Old Boys B

Third Old Boys A

Fourth Centenary

Fifth Gonubie

Sixth Abbotsford

Seventh University of Fort Hare (UFH)

Eighth Omega

The top two teams in each division then played in the finals. Results were as follows:

A Division – Winners: Hi-Q Invitational team (Runners-Up: Beacon Bay)

B Division – Winners: Destiny (Runners-Up: Old Boys B)

A big thank you must be given to VINCENT HARDWARE for sponsoring the tournament, as well as to PARKER & ASSOCIATES and STEERS GONUBIE for the sponsoring of prizes. A big thank you must also be given to the many cooks who provided food over the two-month long league – your commitment to Old Boys Tennis is highly valued and appreciated.
